Wind & October (Listenings)

I walked into a storm of October's colors.
Every leaf held a secret in the noise.
I pulled my skin a bit closer to my bones
as shelter from the years of growing knowledge.

My warmth, a type of solace in sad nostalgia and loss:
finding memories
in the eyes of smiling boys.

Old eyes found dew-drops, crystalline, in spider's webs
and augur out
reflections
and inversions
of the form of my mother.
I bound my hands with memories.
I walked past all the trees into the open and the cold.

I listened to my voice reverberate
on coiled springs
and wind.

"

I'm leaving.
I'm going for a walk until I find a grove of quiet trees
with roots descended by the snow.
I'm not quite certain where I'll go,
but go alone.

Don't retrace my trail;
I'll come back.

  1. I really don't know how you wrote such a good fall poem in February.

    It's very thoughtful and serene. Exactly the mood and atmosphere for a long autumn walk.

    A lot of the stuff I said from the last one applies to this one. The first stanza is beautiful. The whole concept of it. AUGH I just really love this poem, but I don't want to be like a little fangirl which I AM being. It's got to be so annoying.

    But I love the ending too. How throughout the poem you develop sort of an understanding of what's going on outside, and it makes you decide to leave. But it's not angry or rebellious or anything, still serene, just going to figure something out.
    "Don't retrace my trail;
    I'll come back."

    Or actually you may have set out with the intention to leave the whole time. I don't know.

    But the whole poem is so calm, insightful, detail-oriented, introspective, and deep. Like "every leaf held a secret in the noise". It finds meaning where anyone else would simply see the surface and move on.

    I love it. It may be my new favorite of yours.
